Wet, Windy Weather Forecast 12/21 – 12/25
Per the National Weather Service; Wet, windy weather (impactful and hazardous at times) is upon us for the remainder of the weekend and through next week. Soils are currently dry, so they will be able to absorb more moisture initially. This will change as the long duration heavy rain event continues and soils become more saturated. Right now the forecast for our area is:
- 40% – 60% probability of gusts above 50 mph Tuesday through Thursday.
- Rainfall amounts of between:
- 0.8″ – 1.8″ Sunday
- 0.5″ – 1.5″ Monday
- 1.2″ – 2.2″ Tuesday
- 1.0″ – 2.0″ Wednesday
- 0.8″ – 1.8″ Thursday
- Uncertainty in the forecast increases the further south and inland you go. You will find the latest forecast on the NWS site.
With holidays upon us and shorter retail shopping hours this is a good time to plan ahead and make sure your batteries are charged, gas tanks are topped off and (if you know how to use one) chainsaws are ready. I encourage you to keep an ear on your radios (ham and GMRS if you have one) 24 hours a day in case your neighbors need help. If we are called upon by La Honda Fire to assist then notification will be on CMD31 and through our forum. If possible there will be an SMC Alert. Your ham radio will be the primary way you are notified as it is independent of infrastructure.
