Plan for Closed Roads
Forecasters expect a very strong El Niño this winter. When heavy rain hits the Coastside, slides and flooding can close Highways 1, 92, and 84, and help and supplies may take longer to reach the Southcoast and South Skyline neighborhoods. The first rains of the season have arrived. Before the first storm:
- STOCK UP on at least 3 days of food, water, medications, and pet supplies.
- FILL your tank or charge your car when a big storm is forecast.
- PLAN for kids at school or family working over the hill if roads close midday.
- CHECK road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov or call 1-800-427-7623 before you drive.
If you may need to leave, go before the storm, not during it. Sign up for SMC Alert at smcalert.info.
